After writing my Pengo clone I was after another classic game to use my sprite engine on. What could be more classic than Space Invaders?
Although this game is generally simpler than Pengo, I've always wondered how to handle the unusual shield destruction mechanism when using a sprite engine. In this case I've used an offscreen image of each shield to subtract each explosion from, before rendering them to the screen.
It's not an exact clone, but hopefully pretty close to the original version, and should be playable enough. Use the following controls.
